It’s called the Genesis because it was inspired by our first product, our DIY sandal kit, and one of mankind’s first footwear designs. Then, of course, we updated it with the experience we’ve had and feedback we’ve gotten, from making barefoot-friendly sandals since 2009.

Caring for your Xero Shoes

To clean your Xero Shoes, hand wash with warm water, mild soap and allow them to air dry.
We do not recommend putting your Xeros in the washing machine or dryer.

What’s the difference between the Genesis, Cloud, and your DIY kits?

The Genesis and Cloud are ready-to-wear barefoot-inspired sandals. For our kits you, well, have to make them 😉

Both products use our exclusive FeelTrue® rubber, the only outsole product made specifically for barefoot style sandals.

The Genesis’s sole is 5mm thick, compared to either 4mm or 6mm on the DIY kits. The Cloud has 3mm of Barefoam™ in the forefoot for a bit of extra comfort and lighter weight (the Clouds float!)

The Cloud and Genesis have a toe loop, so there’s no knot under your foot.

The Cloud and Genesis have a simpler lacing system with a patented adjustment technology that lets you get a perfect fit in just seconds.

The ankle holes on the Cloud and Genesis are raised off the ground so the lace can’t abrade.

Why don’t you use leather or hemp laces?

You can use almost anything for lacing huaraches.

In my testing, though, I found some issues with hemp and leather that I didn’t like:

Both leather and hemp tended to stretch, especially when moist
Both leather and hemp tighten and stiffen when they dry
Both leather and hemp wear out faster than our polyester laces
Leather is much more expensive
Most leather laces are rectangular, and the edges can dig into your skin
Leather, isn’t vegan (for those who care about that)
Leather and hemp don’t give you as many fun color choices

The 100% polyester cord we use is strong, light, and doesn’t stretch or tighten, especially when wet.

Also, I prefer the “slip-on” method of tying which works best with a round lace, rather than a flat one (like leather).

Needless to say, you can replace the lace we send you with whatever you like.

60% Off Replacement Pair

My husband really likes these flipflops - unfortunately the string fastening the shoe broke at the back through wear and tear. The team at XERO kindly offered at 60% refund off his next pair. I didn't give 5 start because we would have preferred to just replace the string but the team was very helpful in finding a solution.

Légère mais serrage relativement ardu et peu durable dans le temps

Chaussures achetées pour des sensations minimalistes. Rien à dire sur la semelle et le confort. En revanche, bien que ça paraisse simple, le système de serrage reste compliqué à adapter parfaitement car il est multifactoriel : si vous tirez sur l'arrière, le pied glisse vers l'avant, il faut donc resserrer l'avant, mais du coup, on a le pied trop serré, alors il faut agrandir les boucles sur le côté, mais le pied recule, et ainsi de suite. Et par ailleurs, tout ça a tendance à ne pas tenir très longtemps, si vous la stockez et la reprenez la prochaine fois, le temps de l'enfiler en tirant un peu sur les sangles, vous avez une chance sur deux que le réglage ait bougé. Bref, un peu déçu car il est relativement difficile d'obtenir un bon maintien rapidement et sans devoir ajuster à chaque utilisation.

great shoe with poor durability

It feels graet on the foot and is as light as a feather but i am wearing them now since one and a half years and they broke 6 times in that time frame. the toe part easily wears of because of sand grinding through the fabric . it is definately not able to survive a two year warranty when u plan to wear them daily in summer. it's really a mistery to me how the did not solve this yet. BUT the custumer support always supplies me with new shoes when the toe part rips off. very fast, uncomplicated ... but this also produces unnessesary waste. so why are thy not improving it? i suggested it in many diffrent mails. i cant be the only one who has the difficulties it is easily reparable tho if you invrest in nylon laces and just fit them through the toe part and burn seal them together. after 18 month now the side holders ripped out because i slipped during walking. . they would be my most favourite shoes when they only could be more durable and sustainabe.
