Like Wearing Mountain Bike Tires on Your Feet

Scrambler Mid II is a collaboration with Michelin, the car and bike tire company.

If you could see inside the thin Michelin fiberlite sole, you’d find an embedded textile layer, giving the sole unparalleled strength, flexibility, and lightness.

Plus, with mud-shedding lugs inspired by Michelin’s high-performance mountain bike tires, you feel the confidence that comes with incredible grip.

Extra Protection with an "Illusion"

The Scrambler Mid II may appear to have a thick sole, leading you to assume that Xero Shoes has sold out.

Far from it. While the boot has a thin layer of our TrailFoam™ to provide extra comfort and protection on rough trails, the thick sole is an illusion created by our design team to make this look like a conventional hiking boot. You get the lightweight flexibility you’ve come to expect from Xero Shoes. Averaging just 332 g per shoe (men’s 42), a pair of the Scrambler Mid II weighs less than just one single boot from most other companies.

Like all our shoes, the Scrambler Mid II is made to give you season after season of outdoor fun and is covered by our 5,000-mile sole warranty.

Comfortable from Trailhead to Summit

Keep your feet protected from dirt, debris, and mud with the Scrambler Mid II’s upgraded abrasion-resistant, vegan-friendly, breathable upper and welded sidewalls.

Stay dry and comfortable with the moisture-wicking lining that still allows airflow even on the hottest days on the trail.

And when the elements give you an extra challenge, attach your favorite gaiter to the included hook and tackle the next peak.

Whether you take it for a day trip or a month-long thru-hike, the Scrambler Mid II is your perfect companion to Live Life Feet First!

Good, but not perfect

For three weeks I walked in these boots on long (25-30 km) day hikes in the Austrian Alps. So far, I had worn heavy and extremely durable Hanwag Tatra II boots on such routes. The Scrabmbler Mid II are very lightweight and seem very fragile, so I was worried whether they could handle the rather difficult and varied terrain of the Alps. To my surprise, they passed the test very well, but with few reservations. The biggest plus is the very low weight (two Scrambler Mid II boots weigh less than one Hanwag Tatra II) and the very high walking comfort. On a 12-15 hour hike this makes a huge difference, as after a full day in the Tatra II I no longer had the strength to climb the stairs of the guesthouse. Another plus is the excellent sole, which provided very good traction on almost any surface. Even on wet rock, I didn't notice any difference from Hanwag boots. In the description of the boots you can find information that the boots are resistant to abrasion. Resistant is an understatement, these boots are sensational in this regard. It's time for the downsides. First of all, the boots have literally zero grip on snow. I expected this because a practically flat sole with a not-so-aggressive tread can't behave any differently, and on snow the boots slide as well as skates on ice. So when planning to go to the mountains, you need to remember not to wear these boots on trails above 2500 m above sea level because there are still snowfields at such altitudes even in the heat of summer. The second downside is soaking. I deliberately chose the regular version of the Scrambler Mid II and not the Waterproof because I was primarily concerned with the best possible breathability. The problem is that you will get your feet wet faster in these shoes than in sandals 🙂 All you need is dew-wet grass and your feet will also be wet. This problem is more difficult to solve than slipping on snow because I don't always know the type of surface I'm going out on in the higher parts of the mountains and wet grass sometimes can't be avoided. Bottom line: the Scrambler Mid II is a really great boot, but it requires more careful route planning because it's not as versatile as traditional heavy leather boots like the Hanwag Tatra II or Meindl Vakuum.

Perfect shoes

I bought 44 because i usually wear 44.Exchanged to 43 without any problems.Did 3 hikes already , these shoes are perfect for me.One pair weights less then one shoe of my previously used shoes.Rocks or roots are no problems. For my feet these shoes are really perfect. I am glad i bought them.I used classic leather hiking boots for 9 years and i thought they need to be that heavy to stabilize my feet on trails.Xero Scrambler does same job with less than half weight. And my toes have space, i get no burning after some hours of hiking. Makng qualitiy is also excellent. Sorry my english, have a nice day.

nearly perfect

I am delighted with the shoe itself, its fit and the way it looks. I was out and about in high alpine terrain and felt absolutely safe with it. The only thing that bothers me is that I got a rash on both legs above the shaft. I put this down to the nature of the material. The fabric seems to contain substances that triggered this reaction. All in all, however, a good shoe - I hope it stays with me for a long time. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
